Johannes Vermeer Award 2010 goes to

Alex van Warmerdam

Secretary of State for Culture Halbe Zijlstra presented the Johannes Vermeer Award 2010 to Alex van Warmerdam, director, dramatist, artist, actor and writer. The jury selected him because of the high quality of his entire oeuvre, including films, theatre plays, novels, poems and paintings. It commended Alex van Warmerdam for his dogged perfectionism and unfailing energy, his unconventional working style, his unique vision of Dutch culture and his sharply penetrating, yet often ironic, portrayal of social relationships.
